General Overview of All Four JW Stations
JW Broadcasting is the largest central Missouri television broadcaster providing four channels of high quality network, syndicated and local programming to the Columbia-Jefferson City television market. Formed in 2003, JW purchased KMIZ-TV and Fox11 from Chelsey Broadcasting and began building the group of stations from studios and offices at 501 Business Loop 70 East in Columbia, Missouri. Almost immediately JW began investing in the technical infrastructure of the stations and to date has invested millions of dollars in the group of stations. In late 2003 JW launched a new UPN affiliate for the market and expanded the coverage of the highly successful 24-hour weather channel ABC17 Stormtrack 24/7, one of the first local weather channels launched in America (first available in 1997!). Today, JW operates KMIZ-TV, the ABC affiliate for the market; Fox38, the Fox network affiliate; MyZou32 (KZOU), the My Network TV affiliate for the market and ABC17 Stormtrack 24/7.
About JW Broadcasting
JW Broadcasting, LLC was formed in 2003 by CEO David Joseph. A former television station owner and General Manager from Arizona, Joseph brought decades of broadcasting experience to JW and mission of aggressively building a new type of broadcast company; focused on usage of technology and unique business models to achieve strategic objectives and grow previously underperforming stations in viable growth markets. JW acquired three television stations in Jackson, Mississippi and Joseph continues to examine other acquisitions in an ongoing manner.
Our Digital Multicasting Story
Multicasting…one of the most unique aspects of JW’s history in Columbia-Jefferson City involves the use of technology to benefit viewers all across central Missouri. Multicasting is the technique by which television stations are able to utilize the digital spectrum to provide multiple program streams to viewers with a digital television receiver (the type now mandated in each television set sold in America). Through multicasting, JW is able to broadcast ABC17, Fox38, MyZou32 and ABC17 Stormtrack 24/7 to digital receivers all across the region, thereby providing new programming and potentially life-saving weather information to viewers. Viewers with a digital receiver can pick up ABC17 on DTV channel 17.1, Fox38 on DTV channel 17.2, MyZou32 on DTV channel 17.3 and ABC17 Stormtrack 24/7 on DTV channel 17.4.
